How a 3D measurement works: from enquiry to inspection report
You have a part that needs to be measured – but what happens next? Here you can see step by step how an order is handled at Hanimann 3D-Messlabor.
1. Enquiry: describe the part and the measuring task
The quickest way is via our contact form, by e-mail or by phone. Helpful information includes:
- the drawing with the features to be inspected, for example as a PDF
- the CAD model, if available, for example as a STEP file
- quantity and desired deadline
- the purpose of the measurement, such as initial sample inspection, series inspection or a complaint
You can upload drawings and CAD files directly in the contact form (up to 15 MB).
2. Advice and quotation
We check which measuring method suits your task – tactile, optical, CT or a combination – and prepare a non-binding quotation for you. The price depends on the effort involved: part size and complexity, measuring method and number of parts.
3. Getting the parts to us
You send us the parts or drop them off – we agree on the procedure together. We treat your parts, drawings and measurement results confidentially and use them exclusively for your order. If you would like a separate non-disclosure agreement, just let us know.
4. Measurement in the lab
Measurements are carried out in our lab in Wilen b. Wil. If you wish, you can accompany your measurement on site – so you can see directly how your part is inspected and clarify questions immediately.
5. Inspection report
You receive an inspection report with all measured features, nominal and actual values and an assessment of whether each feature is within tolerance. For CT measurement or 3D digitization, color-coded nominal/actual comparisons are added. How a report is structured is explained in the article What is in an inspection report?
How long does it take?
As a rule, the inspection report is available three to four working days after the parts arrive – depending on the scope of the measuring task and the workload of the lab. For urgent cases, we check by arrangement whether faster processing is possible.
Tip: clear documents speed things up
The more precisely the measuring task is described, the faster we can quote and measure. Let us know whether all drawing dimensions or only selected features are to be measured and whether you need an initial sample inspection report according to VDA. More on this on the Initial Sample Inspection page. Which method suits your part is explained in the article CT or tactile measurement?
